Nuclear contamination effects in JAPAN

Nuclear contamination is a very serious problem. The people in Japan know more about this than anyone in the world, for they’re the only country to ever suffer a nuclear attack. The effects of radiation exposure frequently doesn’t occur immediately. The effects can sometime be seen in the next generation due to genetic mutation and they can be very mild such as nausea, vomiting, skin irritation, to extremely severe, leading to death. The variability makes this very mysterious and one doesn’t know what to expect, which increases the terror.

How does one protect himself? The best way obviously is to move from the area immediately. Interestingly, many of the population of Japan have been told to barricade themselves inside of their homes. Close doors, windows, and inlets to fresh air. The only problem with those recommendations is how do you get food, water, and the other necessities of life? It’s one of the reasons why it’s advised to keep adequate supply of vital substance in your home. There will naturally be a tendency to withdraw our interest in nuclear power because of this unforeseen accident, but it should be kept in mind that Japan suffered not only a massive earthquake but a Tsunami. Most of the radiation is being contained by the people who constructed them. Unfortunately it’s hard to find a 100% safe energy solution.

You have forgotten to mention the most important plan for what to do during crazy nuclear disasters:

The first approach to be taken in such incidences is, seeking the IODINE Tablets, the Potassium Iodine KI Tablets that protect the Thyroid from the first and the most popular impact of the Radioactive Volatile Iodine.

The good ventilation and running away from the accident location is a Plan B situation as compared to consuming the above mentioned salt.

تنص في أبحاثها و بالتوصية لجميع أفرادها المنتشرين في كل مكان في العالم باللجوء إلى حبوب KI و هي حبوب أملاح اليود و البوتاسيوم لدرء خطر الإصابات الإشعاعية و هي توزع بشكل روتيني في صفوف الأفراد العاملين تحت ما يسمى Department Of Defence DOD و بتفسير معين لحماية الغدة الدرقية من الإصابة الأولى للغدة بالسرطان كأول مرحلة من تضرر الاحشاء الداخلية بسبب الضربات و التسربات الإشعاعية.

حقيقة لم أسمع بكاربونات الصوديوم -عبر الوريد- لدرء مخاطر إصابة الكلية و الجهاز البولي كخط أول ضد الحوادث الإشعاعية.. ربما لصعوبة تطبيقها و تخصصيته مقارنة بالحبوب اليود و هي أصبحت متوافرة على الرف في اليابان اليوم و بلا وصفة طبيب و موجودة أيضا في معظم دول أوروبا منذ كارثة تشيرنوبيل.

The oral administration of sodium bicarbonate diminishes the

The kidneys are usually the first organs to show chemical damage upon uranium exposure. Old military manuals suggest doses or infusions of sodium bicarbonate to help alkalinize the urine if this happens. This makes the uranyl ion less kidney-toxic and promotes excretion of the nontoxic uranium-carbonate complex. The oral administration of sodium bicarbonate diminishes the severity of the changes produced by uranium in the kidneys. So useful and strong is sodium bicarbonate that at Los Alamos National Laboratory in New Mexico, researcher Don York has used baking soda to clean soil contaminated with uranium. Sodium bicarbonate binds with uranium, separating it from the dirt; so far, York has removed as much as 92 percent of the uranium from contaminated soil samples. I started writing about baking soda after discovering that the United States Army recommends the use of bicarbonate to protect the kidneys from radiation damage.

Sodium bicarbonate can safely remove paint, grease, oil and smoke residue, decreasing workers’ exposure to harsh chemicals and eliminating much of the hazardous waste associated with other cleaners. “Sodium bicarbonate is able to clean in areas where other substances pose fire hazards, because baking soda is a natural fire extinguisher,” says Kenneth Colbert, a general manager for Arm & Hammer. This is the reason it’s used by oncology centers to control chemo agent spills and it’s actually used intravenously to protect patients from the hazardous toxicity of chemotherapy.

“Uranium is one of the only metals that get significant bonding from carbonate. Just flushing a lot of bicarbonate through the system, along with whatever kidney support you are going to use, will be very helpful,” writes Dr. Chris Shade. There is no better therapy for radiation sickness then intense sodium bicarbonate (baking soda) and magnesium baths with the appropriate clay added in. Even sodium thiosulfate can be added to these baths and that instantly neutralizes any chlorine in the bath water while simultaneously providing sulfur for the vital sulfur pathways.

U.S. installations across Japan have started passing out potassium iodide pills as a precautionary measure against radiation exposure, including one Air Force base.
The commander of U.S. Pacific Command has directed that potassium iodide pills be distributed to Defense Department personnel and their dependents within certain areas of Japan. The command said in a statement that it is a “prudent protective health measure” to pass out potassium iodide, a compound that helps protect the thyroid gland from radiation exposure.
“While there is no indication of increased exposure, this decision reduces the health risks associated with potential exposure to certain forms of radiation,” according to the statement. “No one should take KI at this time.”
“We want everyone who may need the pills to be prepared, whether it’s because of potential mission-related hazards, or an unforeseen change in circumstances,” Feather said.
In addition to burns, extensive radiation exposure can cause radiation sickness, which includes nausea, hair loss, vomiting and harm to blood cells.
The thyroid, a butterfly-shaped gland in the neck that covers the windpipe, takes in iodine from the blood to make hormones that keep the body running, James Fagin, chief of endocrinology at New York’s Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, told USA Today. Fagin studied thyroid cancer in children living near the Chernobyl nuclear reactor in the former Soviet Union, which exploded in 1986. But the thyroid can’t distinguish radioactive iodine released in a nuclear meltdown from the normal kind. Radioactive material entering the thyroid can cause cancer.[/color

I, honstely have never heard of Iodine tablets as precaustionary measure against nuclear radiotion before now!!!so thanks for the good info. However, the iodine pills are effective against radioactive iodine only. Also, the ventilation measure you mentioned seems weird because radioactive iodine can be airborne and tranfer through air.

The KI tablet are of OTC class drug, it can be purchased without Rx and they are in Hypermarkets now

In good ventilation, I meant the rescue approach by going through Oxygen therapy -by Mask or even Intubation Methods- and of course not to send the victim outside for a fresh air bath hhhhh

The tablets are to be used, if necessary, to supplement evacuation or sheltering. After individuals have evacuated the area, then they will no longer be exposed to significant quantities of radioiodines. The KI tablets, if taken at the appropriate dosage and time, block the thyroid gland, preventing uptake of radioactive iodine. Any radioactive iodine taken into the body after consumption of KI will be rapidly removed from the body. The two tablets will protect the thyroid gland for approximately 48 hours.
